Routine Maintenance Guide for KETELES E-bikes

Routine Maintenance Guide for KETELES E-bikes

Recommended Maintenance
Here is a list of regular maintenance activities you can perform while you own your bike:
• Inspect the bike.
o When: Before each ride
o How: Regularly inspect bike components for signs of improper alignment, safety, and function before each ride.
• Clean the bike.
o When: As needed
o How: Clean with a damp rag and a non-corrosive, biodegradable cleaner. Do not use a pressure washer or hose to clean the bike. This can cause water damage to electrical components and may void your warranty. See the Bike Cleaning section below for more details.
• Perform a maintenance check.
o When: Once a year
o How: Consult a local certified and reputable bike mechanic.
• Replace the brake pads.
o When: As needed
o How: Brake pads typically wear faster on e-bikes than on conventional, non-powered bikes due to the weight of the powered components, as e-bikes travel at higher speeds and with greater momentum. Note any changes in brake stopping power or uneven brake wear. Brake pads must be replaced when the amount of brake pad material is less than 1mm.  Click here to order KETELES ebike brake pads.

• Check the paint.
o When: As needed
o How: Visually inspect the paint on the frame. If the paint on the metal is scratched or chipped, use touch-up paint to prevent rust. Clear nail polish can also be a preventative measure.

Check the KETELES electric bike before riding

Before every ride, you must give your e-bike a thorough inspection. Here is a quick summary of the main features to check:
• Seat: The seat must be properly adjusted for the operator's leg length, must not exceed the minimum insertion point, and be securely fastened (not slipping or twisting).
• Handlebars: You must be able to move the handlebars left and right without interference from any accessories. No cables should be strained or electrical connections should be strained when turning the handlebars.
• Battery: The battery should have enough charge to get you where you need to go before the next charge. Remove the key from the battery or frame before riding.
• Brakes: The brakes must stop both wheels securely, and the brake levers must be easy to operate. There must be enough space between the brake lever and the handlebar grip when the brake lever is fully squeezed to avoid pinching any fingers on the handlebar grip.
• The wheels must be securely attached and the axles tightened according to the owner's manual instructions and torque values. If your front wheel has a quick-release lever, be sure to secure it as described there.
• The tires must be properly inflated, spin without wiggling, and be free of any cuts, cracks, bulges, or bald spots.
• The chain should have some flex but not be "floppy" or sagging.
• All moving parts (chain, wheels, cranks, etc.) must be clear of any gears, clothing, belts, or other objects that could contact, interfere, or rub.
• All bolts and other fasteners must be tightened according to the instructions and torque values specified in your owner's manual. Accessories must be securely attached according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Your owner's manual includes a comprehensive safety checklist tailored to your model of keteles e-bike. You must review that information before riding your e-bike.
